How I Found My Way Back to the Drumming. I’ve been drumming for most of my life. It started in Southern California, where I came up playing in school bands and local drumlines—most memorably at Kennedy High School in La Palma. I studied under legendary teachers like Roy Burns and Murray Spivack, whose guidance still shapes the way I approach rhythm, tone, and feel.
How I Found My Way Back to the Drumming
Drumming became more than a craft—it became a way of processing life. But in 2000, after my father passed away, I stopped playing. I think part of me was afraid to face what his loss really meant. The drums had always helped me feel things deeply, and at that moment, I just couldn’t go there.
Years later, I slowly found my way back. Projects like Shoot the Moon and my solo work, including the March EP, helped me reconnect with rhythm on new terms. Now, when I sit behind a kit, I carry everything with me—the early technique, the silence in between, and the healing that comes when you let yourself really feel the beat.
